The National Association of Regional Councils (NARC) presented the 2014 President’s Award to Brazos Valley Council of Governments in recognition of Workforce Solutions Brazos Valley, HYPE (Helping Youth Prepare for Employment) Career Expo. These two programs significantly impacted the region while promoting, exemplifying the coordination, cooperation in the region. Judge Bryon Ryder, the Brazos Valley Council of Government Chair received the award at the NARC meeting held June 11th in Louisville, Kentucky.
The Helping Youth Prepare for Employment (HYPE) Career Expo is designed to expose Brazos Valley high school juniors and seniors to the diversity of high growth, in demand occupations within the region. This event is held during the spring semester of the school year. The event takes partnership efforts between the Workforce Solutions Brazos Valley, local school districts and local employers throughout the region.
The Career Expo is a great opportunity for businesses to connect with their future workforce and encourage students to acquire skills they need to be successful at the employer’s workplace, in addition to educating students about the amazing diversity of career opportunities in our region and the skills they need to acquire employment. This event educates students about the amazing diversity of career opportunities in our region and the skills they will need to pursue their career choices. The career skills required range from bachelor’s degrees to certifications.
Whether a student decides to go directly to college after graduation, is looking for employment to help defray college costs, wants to pursue technical education or go straight into work after graduation, this is an opportunity for them to connect with the employers that make up our local economies.
