Pre-Apprenticeship Class for Electricians

Do you want to be an Electrician and Earn while you Learn?

Electricians are in demand in the Brazos Valley and you can EARN while you LEARN.

Average Wage for Electricians is up to $24.09/hour and for an Electrical Apprentice it’s up to $16.75/hour in our area!

Workforce Solutions Brazos Valley has been awarded a new grant by the Texas Workforce Commission to start a Pre-Apprenticeship class for the Electrical Trade in the Brazos Valley!

The Pre-Apprenticeship Class helps prepare you for the electrician career pathway through a registered apprenticeship.  Registered Apprenticeships have entry qualifications that can be tough. By taking this Pre-Apprenticeship Class, you will be ready to gain entry into an Apprenticeship Program.

Day and Evening Classes are available now and will prepare you to enter into an Electrical Apprenticeship Program in the Brazos Valley!

Qualifications to be accepted into the Pre-Apprenticeship Class:

  • You must be eighteen years old
  • Have a picture ID
  • Have a Social Security Card
  • High School Diploma or GED….Don’t worry, if you don’t have a diploma or GED, we have classes at not no cost for that too!

Work Clothes, Books, and Tools can be provided to eligible students.

Upon completion of the Pre-Apprenticeship Bridge class, you will have earned:

  • An OSHA – 10 card
  • A National Center for Construction Education & Research Core Certificate
  • Knowledge to pass the entrance exam for the apprenticeship test

Apprenticeship training helps prepare and train you for a career in a skilled trade or craft. It combines supervised on-the-job training with job-related, classroom instruction to teach you the practical and theoretical aspects of a highly skilled occupation. Paid on-the-job training, sometimes referred to as “earn while you learn,” helps you gain entry into a high-wage occupation while avoiding large student debts.

Registered Apprenticeship employer sponsors identify the minimum eligibility and any additional qualifications applicants must possess.

To apply for Apprenticeship training, you must meet all of these qualifications:

  • Age: To be eligible, you must be no younger than 16 years of age; however job seekers must be 18 years of age to be an Apprentice in a hazardous occupation, and proof of age will be required.
  • Education: Typically a high school diploma or GED is required, but an Apprenticeship program may have other minimum requirements.
  • Physical Ability: Some programs may require physical strength and endurance. Where necessary, apprentices must be able to work in a physically demanding environment for extended periods of time and in all weather conditions.

All applicants are required to meet the minimum qualifications. Some programs may have additional qualifications regarding:

  • Performance on aptitude tests
  • Secondary or postsecondary grades
  • Previous work experience

Registered Apprenticeship training programs meet the skilled workforce needs of industry and train qualified individuals for lifelong careers. Traditional industries include construction and manufacturing. Emerging industries include health care, information technology, energy and telecommunications.
